Trick or Treat

On this night, my Cauldron of Candy was stolen by a band of neighborhood Middle Schooler’s that believe they have gotten away with it.  🙂  But not so!  For I know who they are, and I even have the bracelet of the girl in their little gang of 10.  Also, the coat hanger in which they tried to break into our garage.  Future criminals?  Perhaps.  But, for now the thieves are free.  That is until they try again and I turn over the evidence to the police. 🙂  Tolerance only lasts so long.  🙂

Trick or Treat, My Turn!

Our Haunted Hot Chocolate Ghosts

Mexican Chocolate is some of the best as it is jammed packed with spices like Cinnamon.  I simply purchased the chocolates at the local grocery store, following the package instructions, and then poured it into some Haunted Mansion mugs.

The Haunted Charcuterie Halloween Board

Spooky Cheeses

Ingredients:

Olive Loaf slices

Friendly Franken Sage Derby Cheese

Pumpkin Spice Wensleydale Cheese

Bat Knit Crazy Cheddar

Transylvanian Hard Cheese Soaked in Red Wine

———————————————————————

Sweet Potato Soft Jerky

This is very easy to make and quite tasty!

All you need are Sweet Potatoes.

Just slice them into lengths and place onto a Parchment Paper lined Baking Tray.  Bake them in a 225F Oven for 4 hours.

We first baked them for 2 hours and then flipped the yams, and then replaced them into the oven for an additional 2 hours.

They Came Out Really Well!

You could brush them with Olive Oil, or sprinkle a bit of spices like Cinnamon if you like.

—————————————————————————————

Our Artichoke Squares

This is a big favorite of ours that we have the recipe in a few places on our website.

It is also an excellent addition to any charcuterie board.

—————————————————————–

Artichoke Appetizer

2- 8 oz. jars of marinated artichoke hearts (chopped)

We use 4.

1 medium onion (diced)

We use 1 1/2

1 garlic clove (finely chopped)

We use 3 – 4

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese.

We use 4

1 sleeve Saltine crackers (crushed) or you can use 2 cups bread crumbs in place of the Saltine crackers.

1 tsp. oregano (dried)

1 tsp. basil (dried)

(Can also use dried parsley here as well)

2 eggs (whisked)

We used 4

——————————————————————–

Drain jars of marinade into a medium sauté pan and use the liquid to sauté the onion until translucent.  Add the garlic and cook another 3 minutes.  In a large bowl place the sharp cheddar cheese, crushed Saltine Crackers, the dried herbs, the chopped artichoke hearts and the eggs, stir to combine.  When the marinade, onion and garlic mixture has cooled then add to the other ingredients and mix together.  Place the mixture into a greased casserole dish.  We just spray ours with Pam cooking oil spray.  Bake at 350* for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.

We don’t follow the recipe to the letter.  We tend to add more of the things that we like.  We always alter recipes to suit our personal tastes and dietary needs.

Right Out of the Oven, Smells Great!

Just allow to cool and then cut into squares.

Great served on crackers.

The Haunted Spooky Cocktail

———————————————————————————-

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp. Light Corn Syrup
2 Tbsp. Large White Sugar Crystals
3 Shots Spooky Margarita Mix
3 Shots Margaritaville Silver Tequila
2 Cups Ice
Garnish with Ghost Peeps and Red Sugar

——————————————————————–

What better than using a Spooky Margarita mix in a spooky
drink?

This is a picture of all the ingredients we used.

Start by pouring some of the light corn syrup on a plate, and dip
the top of your glass in it.

Then, dip your glass into the large white sugar crystals.

Slice the Ghost Peep bottom section and fasten it to the glass and set
aside.

I placed about 2 Cups of ice in the blender then added equal
parts Spooky Margarita Mix and…

Margaritaville Silver Tequila. This is not a shot glass, but a juice
glass which I only needed to fill once. Use more or less of the
ingredients to your taste and crowd size.

Blend Until Smooth

Carefully pour the mixture into the glass so as not to disturb the
garnish.

Top with some Red Sugar

Take note of the Glasses from the Haunted Mansion.  🙂

A Perfect Halloween Night TREAT

Hand Made Haunted Mansion Serving Trays

When we lived in Maryland in the early 2000’s I made a ton of these kinds of trays.  I would decoupage either graphics or even copies of photographs onto them as keepsakes.  I gave away many of them as gifts.

This particular year, I decided that I wanted to make some Haunted Mansion trays.  It was a lot of fun!  I kept one for myself, and gave the other to my daughter and son-in-law.

Here is how I did it:

————————————————————————————-

You will first need to buy the wooden serving trays from a craft store.  I purchased these at Michael’s.  I also purchased some new paints, paint brushes, decoupage, and even some wooden ghost cutouts.

The first thing you do is to make sure the wooden trays are clean of dust, etc.

I then used a sponge brush and painted them a blue color.  This is the base color and it will show through when I sand the trays with sand paper.

Allow the blue color to dry thoroughly.

Now, I’m using a black paint, to paint over the blue.  I am using acrylic paints that I purchased from Michael’s.

—————————————————————————–

When the black paint has dried, you want to use sand paper to sand the tray in various areas so that the blue paint underneath will show through.  You can see what I did in the photos above.

————————————————————————–

Graphics to Decoupage onto the Trays

I found some nice cut-outs to use on these trays.

I first situate the graphic so that I know how I want to position it.  I then spread some of the decoupage onto the tray, and then place the graphic on top of it, and then spread some more of the decoupage on top of the graphic.

I am now allowing all of this to dry thoroughly.

———————————————————————————–

Spray Painting My Wooden Ghosts White

I’m just using white spray paint on these wooden ghosts.  Because they are so raw, they are absorbing so much of the paint.  I have used an entire can on these 3 small ghosts.  Take that into consideration.

——————————————————————————

I not only decoupage the front of the trays, I also like to add something to the back.

Sometimes it’s an emblem, other times it’s some history.

————————————————————–

Now that the trays are thoroughly dry, it’s time to add the little wooden ghosts.

I just glued them where I wanted them.

Now I just use a wood glue to attach the ghosts where I want them.

Not only is this a wonderful home made gift to give, I am also going to fill it with something nice and tasty to along with it.

—————————————————————————————

Madam Leota’s Haunted Cupcakes

————————————————————————————-

If I’m going to be giving the serving tray as a gift, then you can be sure that I will be putting some kind of treats in it.

I decided to make cupcakes.  They just seemed like the perfect kind of treat for these trays.

The Ghosts that you see above, I found at a pet store.

They are aquarium accents.  (Just don’t eat them.  They are accent only.)

The cupcake cups, I already had.  I did purchase the Madam Leota Cupcake Toppers.

——————————————————————————

Making The Cupcakes

It’s really nice when you have the time to use some lovely homemade or vintage cake recipe.  But, when you don’t, the Duncan Hines Devil’s Food is perfect!  Along with some ready made Vanilla Frosting.

Just Follow The Cake Mix Instructions….

You Will Need a Mixer For This

Bake According to Package Instructions

They Always Come Out Perfect!

——————————————————————–

When They Are Thoroughly Cool, Time To Decorate Them

I just add some blue food coloring to a ready made frosting…

Then I Frosted The Cupcakes!

You can place the Madam Leota Cupcake Topper on top.

Then add a sprinkling of Black Sugar.

Don’t They Look Nice?  🙂

————————————————————————————–

Haunted Ghost Treats

In the same way that you would make Rice Krispy Treats, you will make these ghosts.

The only difference is that I am using Puffed Rice instead of Rice Krispy Cereal.

When I was growing up, everyone used Puffed Rice.  I just wanted to take it backwards to the 60’s and use what I grew up with.

So, I made the Puffed Rice Treats, placed them into ghost molds that I had sprayed with a cooking oil spray, allowed them to set, and then I had my ghosts!

I then set them on a platter to enjoy!

Oh, I did add some black sugar for the eyes and mouth.  🙂
