A Proper English Breakfast

The first food that we cooked was the bacon. I think everyone knows how to cook bacon so there really is no need to go into that “recipe.”

Now for the Beans:

The British seem very content in just opening a can of beans and warming them.

Well….

I’m afraid that will not do with us Americans pretending to be British….

Oh NO! We insist on at least adding a bit of Freshly Ground Black Pepper and some Brown Sugar.

Trust me when I say that we held back in the seasonings trying to fit in.

English Muffin Bread

When it came to providing toast for this breakfast, we couldn’t have gotten any more perfect that this English Muffin Bread.

Gordon’s Write-Up:

For the Proper English Breakfast, I chose to grill the tomato halves and brats, while using my grill’s side burner to saute the mushrooms.

I placed a tbsp of butter into a large saute pan and turned the heat up to medium high.

Turn on your main grill to medium high as well.

Melt the butter then add the sliced mushrooms to the pan and saute (French word meaning, to flip) them in the butter. Add a touch of salt and pepper to the mushrooms and continue to saute them for about 8-10 min. or until they are slightly softened and begin to brown.

Once well heated, place your brats and tomato halves on the grill. Let the tomato’s sit in place for at least 10 min. in order to achieve those great grill marks. You will have to turn the brats completely over just before that time. I like to cook the brats on all four sides.

Here you can see the nicely sauteed mushrooms which are slightly brown.

You can also see the nice grill marks on the tomatoes.

(Looks like Jesus made an appearance.) 🙂

As you grill the brats look out for hot spots and move the brats accordingly so they don’t burn. When the brats are bubbling and have grill marks on all sides… they are done.

pan seared in a saute pan on the stove top with some butter until brown.

Our Breakfast Coming Together

To cook the eggs we used a heart shaped cast iron skillet. Place a Tbsp. of butter in the pan on medium heat.

When the butter is melted, add your egg and let it sit until it turns mostly white. Remove the skillet from the heat occasionally so the egg doesn’t burn as the residual heat in the cast iron will continue to cook the egg. The egg is done when all the egg white has turned firm…. about 8 min. cooking time pending on your heat.
