It’s Wednesday

(Lurch)
YOU RANG…..
Initially, I was just going to write a blog post about the series in my personal blog. I then realized that this was far too big for that, and that I needed to create it’s own page.
Hence, It’s Wednesday……
(Updates will be posted at the bottom.)

Wednesday Blogging
Good Afternoon
I would like to dedicate this to the late Lisa Loring.
The Addams Family Mansion
(Could this be the original influence on my love of spooky old houses and trees?)
Lisa Loring played the original Wednesday Addams on the Addams Family from 1964 – 1966. They made 64 episodes before the show was cancelled.
Born: Lisa Ann DeCinces (Loring)
February 16, 1958 – January 28, 2023
She died of complications due to a stroke. She was 64.
I loved watching the show when I was young. Wednesday Addams was a young girl like myself. I watched how she handled situations and that influenced me in how I related to people. We all have our role models. She was one of mine. I also envied her slender figure. I was a bit of a chubby and my skinny petite mother always made me feel bad about how I looked. So to me, Lisa Loring was perfect.
——————————————————————
The Addams Family
(John Astin was the original Gomez Addams.
He was married to Patty Duke, and the actor, Sean Astin is their child.)
The series also starred Carolyn Jones as Morticia Addams, Ken Weatherwax as Pugsley Addams, Jackie Coogan as Uncle Fester, Marie Blake as Grandmama, Felix Silla as Cousin Itt, Ted Cassidy as Lurch, and Thing as Itself. Along with many other favorite characters.
When I did my Wednesday photo shoot above, I actually had Lisa Loring in mind.
I figured that she would be around my age, yet still look the same, just older.
——————————————————————-
I was born in 1961. I remember watching the show when I was a young child. I loved it! It was funny and bizarre. What I loved the most was that this very weird family was determined to be themselves and not conform to some “social norms” meant to make them feel bad for being different. Nothing seemed to bother them. I admired that, even as a small child.
At that time they had children to play children on T.V. and movie’s, and not some young looking adults to do the job.
Now it’s different. Whenever a role calls for a teenager, it always seems to be some adult in their early 20’s to play the role.
The newest Wednesday Addams does come to mind.

Wednesday’s CLUE
Don’t Blink! It’s Wednesday!
——————————————————-
If you know me, or have read me, then you know how much I love CLUE.
Any version, every version. It’s my game!
This year, 2024, was no different.
This CLUE isn’t as elaborate as we have done in the past, but I think that we did manage to create something very nice.
We also wanted to include our little Isabelle, as Wednesday. Toddler Wednesday.
I, assumed the role as Morticia, and Gordon was Cousin Itt.
I also played my part of grown-up Wednesday.
So, clear the coffee table, set up the game, and let’s roll the dice!
Happy Halloween!

As of this writing I am only focusing on the beginning of the Netflix Wednesday series. I’m doing so because the beginnings always shape us into what is to follow, and the persons that we become.
I had been coming across articles online about how great and popular this Wednesday series was. I would usually roll my eyes because I thought I was done with the Addams Family. I would read that it was the number #1 show. But, it was one night Gordon was channel surfing desperately trying to find something to watch that I suggested the new Wednesday series. I told him to just check it out and see if it was something we would like. I said this, not knowing that I would love it!
—————————————————————–
Wednesday, The Beginning
Jenna Ortega
As I understand it, Jenna had to learn how to play the Cello, took Fencing Lessons, German Lessons, along with Archery and Canoeing. She also choreographed the now famous dance in Woe What a Night.
That is Talent!
Admirable to be sure. The Producers, Directors, etc. were able to create the Wednesday that they wanted in this series and they struck GOLD!
I however, just wanted to point something out. Because of this experience of playing Wednesday Addams, and how well rounded they have made the character, they are also changing the person that is Jenna Ortega.
I’m not saying this is a bad thing. An education tends to make us a smarter and better person. Learning new skills and talents make us into more well rounded people. But, we do live in a country where an education isn’t valued as it should be. We also live in a country where our smart people are not appreciated. We lost a lot of our smart people during the George W. Bush years because he and Dick Cheney refused to fund science. Therefore, other countries snatched them up and they left us to go and work for them. The thing is smart people solve problems. Smart people invent things to make our lives better. They cure diseases. Without our smart people we will become just some dumb redneck nation.
Now that Jenna Ortega has become a smarter and a more well rounded person that puts her into a category where few exist. She is now Exclusive. Exclusive does mean special, but it ends up being in a lonelier place than she was before. We all gravitate towards people that are like us. If we love to sing then we want to be around others that love to sing as well. But, when you are as young as Jenna, and as talented as Jenna, and as exclusive as Jenna, then the pool in which you swim just got a lot smaller. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I am very pro-education. I wish I lived in a country that wanted to educate all people. For then, that pool would be a lot bigger and more interesting. A high tide lifts all boats!
But sadly, that isn’t the country in which we live. I just feel that once the Wednesday series is over with, that she will become typecast and finding people that are like her will become harder. I wish her all the luck in the world though! I also would like to thank everyone associated with this project. It is genius on so many levels.

Quoth the Raven Nevermore
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—–
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“‘Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at me chamber door—–
Only this and nothing more.”
Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak of December;
And each separate dying ember wrought it’s ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; —- vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow—sorrow for the lost Lenore—
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore—-
Nameless here for evermore.
And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me—-filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
“‘Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;—-
This is it and nothing more.”
Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
“Sir.” said I, “or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you”—-here I opened wide the door,—-
Darkness there and nothing more.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;
But the silence was unbroken, and stillness gave no token,
And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “Lenore?”
This I whispered and an echo murmured back the word, “Lenore!”—
Merely this and nothing more.
Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
“Surely,” said I, “surely that is something at my window lattice,
Let me see, then, what thereat is and this mystery explore—
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;—
‘Tis the wind and nothing more!”
Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door—
Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door—-
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.
Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling.
By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,
“Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore—-
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
Much I marvelled this ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning—–little relevancy bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door—-
Bird or beast upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door.
With such name as “Nevermore.”
But the Raven sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing farther than he uttered—not a feather then he fluttered—-—
Till I scarcely more than muttered “Other friends have flown before—
On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before.”
Then the bird said “Nevermore.”
Startled at the stillness broken by reply so aptly spoken,
“Doubtless,” said I, “what it utters is its only stock and store
Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore—
Till the durges of this Hope that melancholy burden bore
Of ‘Never—Nevermore’.”
But the Raven still beguiling all my fancy into smiling.
Straight I wheeled a cushioned seat in front of bird, and bust and door;
Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking
Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore—-
What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore
Meant in croaking “Nevermore.”
This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom’s core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushions velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o’er,
But whose velvet-violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o’er,
She shall press, ah, nevermore!
Then me thought the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose foot falls tinkled on the tufted floor.
“Wretch,” I cried, “thy God hath lent thee—-by the angels he hath sent thee
Respite—-respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore;
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
“Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil—–prophet still, if bird or devil!—-
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted—-
On this home by Horror haunted—tell me truly, I implore—
Is there—- is there balm in Gilead?— tell me— tell me, I implore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
“Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!—-prophet still, if bird or devil!
By that Heaven that bends above us—-by that God we both adore—
Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the disaster Aidenn,
It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore—-
Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore.”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
“Be that word our sign of parting, bird or fiend!” I shrieked, upstarting—
“Get thee back into the tempest and the Night’s Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie they soul hath spoken!
Leave my loneliness unbroken!—quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the Pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon’s that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o’er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be listed—-nevermore!

Checking Wednesday Into Nevermore
Wednesday was actually born on Friday, the 13th.
(I too am a 13 birthday child.)
Wednesday was named after Morticia’s favorite story rhyme,
‘Wednesday’s Child is Full of Woe.’
Apparently, Wednesday has been shuffled around to several schools, Nevermore seems to be a last resort for some reason. I too can relate to being shuffled around to many schools. My family moved a lot while I was growing up.
Entering Wednesday’s Dorm Room
(Very Christian Cathedral like.) Don’t you think? Probably done to prevent any right-wing boycott’s of the show. They tend to shun anything with a dark theme. They even went after the Harry Potter series at one time, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

When I initially wanted to write about this, I thought about doing it from some surface point of view, which is where most people will see it. But, I then realized that I was doing myself and anyone that read my blogs a disservice by doing that. After all, I see life from ‘the deep end of the pool’. So, to write about what everyone see’s on the surface is pointless. Plenty of people will do that. I need to do my thing.
Speaking of Thing……
——————————————————————————–
(I love how we get a glimpse of her novel. Check out the paper in the typewriter.)
How can either of us write without Thing beside us?
I love how Wednesday shuns technology and types the old fashioned way. I too am not so fond of tech. Most things are invented to help people. The internet was supposed to make us smarter. But instead, it’s been used against us in so many ways. But, that is how things are. Something is invented to do good, then the bad people take it over and ruin it for everyone.

It’s Wednesday, so, here goes:
First of all, Morticia and Gomez, they are far too into each other to have children. They aren’t loving and affectionate, they are just horny for each other, more like an obsession. What you do come to discover is that he took the blame for something she did, therefore, she is very grateful to him. Perhaps their “love affair” is more out of obligation in some ways?
But, If they were loving and affectionate to each other, then it would translate into lots of hugs and kisses to their children. Which would make them friendlier than they are. Not so.
In the beginning you see Wednesday enacting revenge on the bullies that harmed her brother. She took on a leadership role that no one else was taking. It should have been the school and the Addams parents working in conjunction with each other to help Pugsley, yet they weren’t. Therefore, Wednesday, being the leader that she is, took it upon herself to help her brother. She may have chosen badly in handling the situation, but she is at least trying to do something, whereas everyone else is doing nothing. And now, she is being shuffled from school to school over her “bad” behavior.” What about the inaction of her parents? Nancy Reagan High School staff and administration? So, being ambivalent is good, being pro-active is bad? Got it! The American way!
This is actually a good example of when children who are being bullied and are in pain are not being helped, they then take it upon themselves the responsibility of stopping the harm. Except, they are children and don’t always make the wisest of decisions. It really is up to the adults to do the job and to not fail them, and not to leave it to them to solve these problems.
———————————————————————————
This does remind me of something that happened to me and my family the summer before my senior year in high school when we moved to Rockingham, North Carolina in 1978. That summer my family rented a big RV and set out west for about a month. Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah….
However, it was one evening when we were traveling that the RV just broke down and we ended up on the side of the highway. Even though there was a CB Radio (Citizen’s Band Radio) in the RV, my step-father was too proud to use it to call for help. I told him to call for help. He wouldn’t. My mother did whatever he wanted her to do, so she was no help either. So, I grabbed a flashlight and used it to make SOS signals out the back of the RV. They didn’t know I was doing that. I just took it upon myself to call for help because no one else was doing so. Someone recognized the code call for help and stopped to help us. My step-father asked how the man knew we were in trouble and he told him that he saw the signals out the back window.
——————————————————————————————–
I relate to Wednesday on many levels. That is just one of them.
She takes it upon herself to be a leader and protector because no one else is doing so. It’s not like she or I want the responsibility. It’s just that no one else is stepping up, so we feel the need to.
——————————————————————————-
Because Wednesday has been “made” to be a leader in protecting her brother, that actually translates into her saving the school and it’s students at the end of the first season when the school is being threatened.
(I love that Gwendoline Christie, Principal Weems, based her character on Tippi Hedren from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds.)
Here, Principal Weems is introducing Wednesday to her new roommate, Enid Sinclair.
Enid is a werewolf, but has yet to “wolf out,” as they say. She is something of a late bloomer.
Enid is very friendly and affectionate, just as most dogs are. She is after all, in the canine family.
———————————————————————————
Enid is Showing Wednesday Around the School
To me, this is kind of like a Hogwarts School from Harry Potter, except this school is for Outcasts, not Wizards and Witches.
—————————————————————————————-
As Enid says, there are 3 main groups in the school. Fangs (Vampires), Claws (Werewolves), and Scales (Mermaids.)
——————————————————————————————
The Scales….
The Fangs, and the Claws…
———————————————————————————-
Xavier Thorpe
He is an artist who can make his creations come to life and enter into our world. He is also in love/obsessed with Wednesday. He also reminds me of my cyber-stalker Paul, of almost 3 decades. Except, Xavier seems to be a good guy, whereas Paul isn’t.
But, I do know what it’s like to be obsessed over and it is just such a waste of time and energy. And yes, even old women have their stalkers. 🙁
(The actor who portrayed Xavier Thorpe, Percy Hynes White, will not be joining Season 2 of Wednesday. I read that it has to do with an alleged sexual incident. I was sad to hear that. He was such a good love interest for Wednesday, they had such chemistry. But, I am glad that the series elites axed him. No one should get a pass when it comes to an assault of any kind.)
————————————————————————————-
Meet Ajax, He’s a Stoner
But, not in the way you think.
He has snakes for hair and can turn people (temporarily) to stone!
He is also Enid’s love interest.
————————————————————————————–
Wednesday Saying Goodbye to her Parents
Morticia is the more strict parent where Wednesday is concerned.
Gomez has such pet names for her. Morticia is clearly the authoritarian.
————————————————————————-
Morticia does however, give Wednesday a talisman necklace that does save her life later on.
It has both of their initials. M for Morticia, then flip it for a W for Wednesday.

Meanwhile…..

There are several murders happening around Jericho.
Sheriff Galpin believes they are associated with the Nevermore school.

Wednesday is Allergic to Color, She is Removing the Color From Her Side of the Window
Enid is upset Wednesday is messing up their room.
(If you were to take these two and place them in a Ziplock Baggie and shake them up, they would probably become a perfect person.) 🙂
I LOVE the lighting here on Enid. She looks as if she is glowing.
To me, Enid is a pastel rainbow on a cloudy day. Her personality is very colorful.
———————————————————————————-
Marilyn Thornhill, Played by Christina Ricci
She also played Wednesday Addams in the 1991 movie, The Addams Family.
I love how Tim Burton will incorporate these sorts of facts and trivia into his story telling. He brings back people to create that trivia. I just wish that he had brought back the original Wednesday to add to that trivia.
The Roomies
What you may not realize is that these two very different people are finding out how to live together, get along together, and to be friends. We all need to take a lesson from this. I don’t think that Wednesday has ever had a friend. So, this is a learning curve for her.

Fencing
I do love that in these kind of elite schools, that they offer fencing as a sport.

Here, I have cut off the sections that I didn’t need, and have washed the portions that I did want to use.
They are currently drying, above.
